Jo Laird Memorial Trophy Result

The second competition of the bowling season calendar was well supported with 32 competitors battling it out for the Jo Laird Memorial Trophy. What started out as a bright sunny day, and finished as a bright sunny day saw a strange turn in the weather with competitors having to endure rain, sleet, hail and the wind. The semi-finals were made up from the four group winners with Alan Smith & Beryl Hill defeating Ian Edmondson & Margaret Lee 7-1 and Rowland Hill & Tom Holland defeating Terry Bailey & Ged Harring 7-2.

An exciting final took place with Alan Smith & Beryl Hill taking a 6-1 lead before eventually losing 7-6 to Tom Holland & Rowland Hill.

The Bowling Green Is Open!

At just after 12:00 midday, Park Club Chairman Tony Hough officially opened the bowling green for the new season.

In his address to the members present he thanked the members of the club who had assisted with the sterling work that has seen improvements made to the bowling green and facilities. In particular he thanked Dave Spencer, Dave West-Lewis, Bob Stones, Gerald Lalley, John Rushton and Bernard Hawkins.

He then requested that the members present observe a moments silence in memory of Doug Hayes.

Following the formal declaration of opening the green, the members enjoyed their first bowl on what proved once again to be an excellent bowling surface.

Change To Website

We now have separate bowling and snooker events pages. The snooker events page has been updated with details of the draw for the Ken Shepherd Singles and the Lumb & Walton Doubles Handicap. The final for both events will take place on Wednesday 25th March.
